so windows live mail started acting strange on both w11 and w10 office computers at work. Finally told the office staff of our small business that would be best to move on from it so convinced them to use outlook thats built into w10 and 11. they have emails going back to 2008 that they cant lose. i've read a couple of threads of other people port but just wanted to clarify the procedure:

export current emails from windows live mail as imap (exchange?) or windows live mail pst format?? import into outlook using the settings/ files/import options...

why does it warn me, "Outlook data files currently need a microsoft365 subscription?" I won't be able to import old emails then? Our email provider is shaw up in canada here. one computer user does not have an office365 subscription, is this really necessary to import pst emails?

Will importing as pst files recreate the folder structure that they have had since 2008 in windows live mail? and also place the appropriate emails in the same place in that structure as it was in wlm??

for instance

Inbox

2008

email

email

email

2009

sales

email

email

email

pending

email

email

2010 etc

If the import could do that, that would really make things easy for us. if it cant do that, whats the best free way to import emails and folders into outlook while maintaining the old structure??

contacts can be exported from wlm as csvs then imported in outlook the same way? Its a lot of business emails that have to be kept so just trying to make it as seamless as possible.
