Some love for Maxwell's Silver Hammer
I really enjoyed this post about Maxwell's Silver Hammer, a song that I've always really liked, but felt a bit ashamed about liking. I think the post gives some really interesting context about the John and Paul relationship, and why stuff like Maxwell infuriated John so much, while also being a big part of the whole mix that made the band ultimately so special.
>This was the chemistry that made the Beatles what they were. Paul singing these songs alone might have amounted to something, but he’d never have been a star. John’s wild antics alone would have gotten him arrested more likely than they’d have made him famous. Together, though, something else emerged. Something magical.
So sure, John hated songs like this. Putting Maxwell on the record made it harder for him to portray himself as an authentic rocker. But he never really was an authentic rocker, and that’s good. The world is full of authentic rockers, none of whom are remotely as cool as the Beatles.
Curious if there are other shy Maxwell enjoyers who have eventually come to terms with liking such an uncool song.
