Beginner game dev using AI as a tool, Yeah so I REALLY need HELP in understanding this. (About Using AI as a tool. [contempt]) (The post is not specific to any game engines).
PLEASE VALIDATE IF I CAN LEARN THIS WAY!
Hi, I am Alexis Hoffman. And I am 16 years of age currently. I was making this game called: "JULIA'S RESIDENCY" It is a psychological horror game with traditional-mixed elements. Honestly, I have been on this project for about a solid month now. And i must say, I love the process of making this game, I love the fact that i have so many options to learn from, So. Obviously I love spending time tinkering with this game.
(Quick backstory here:)
I also am a writer, I like to write A LOT. I find it comforting to myself, To think of ideas, To think of creative scenarios. But also i love executing them to REAL-WORLD, Or passionate projects.
This Game is also my first ever game. I don't consider myself a professional at what i am learning to do currently: THAT IS, coding. I am still at very best, Essentially, A rookie. I have developed A newfound interest in this skill that i am willing to grow, No matter what. Programming, Debugging. It feels exciting for me to learn.
I don't have a personal-bought mentor, I don't have money. It's just me with this scrappy ol' Laptop, Willing to understand. I had only finished 2 months learning python with a course online, I had a good knowledge of the basics and fundamentals, Maybe even some extras. And that's when i initially planned the development of this game. I found out about a engine called GODOT, which uses it's own GDSCRIPT that is very similar to python-like syntax. So i had a better way to understand it!
(Main stuff:)
WELL, i have been really invested in the making of this game. I love to find out about new stuff that i didn't know in the game engine or didn't understand. I feel like it gives me experience... There is just one thing that makes me doubtful of myself though...
Whenever I code and get stuck to a specific problem, I refer to google, If i don't find a solution there--I refer to YouTube... If THAT doesn't help... Well, then i Gemini or ChatGPT to help me debug whatever problem i am stuck in. Trust me, It suffocates me whenever i even talk about this...
Cause GEN AI on the internet is often under the target of: "Lack of Creativity/Passion/Love..." BUT i do LOVE what i do and i do it with my heart... Using AI to help me debug a problem Or Helping me understand where i was wrong or what was wrong in what i wrote; HELPS ME A LOT. It really upgrades my knowledge. Helps me see things in a new light. I only ever used GEN AI for debugging some very specific problems i couldn't get past...
I believe that i am only using AI as a tool to help me understand what i am doing and how i am doing it wrong in some places. Yes, I do know that AI itself is not a good source. As it is prone to hallucinations. But i am internally conflicted. Can i use AI in this context? I need advices.
