Original Sony PS1 Memory Card Freezes Controller Input, Any Fix?
I’ve run into a weird PS1 issue and wanted to see if anyone here has experienced this.
My original PS1 was working perfectly for a long time, then one day it suddenly stopped receiving any input from the controller. The controller powers on (red analog light comes on), but the console doesn’t respond at all, no menu input, can’t skip cutscenes, nothing.
At first I thought the console itself was dead, so I tested multiple controllers and got the same result. Then I bought another PS1 console to test it, and the exact same issue happened there too.
After a lot of trial and error, I figured out the problem is tied to one specific original Sony memory card. Whenever it’s plugged in, controller input completely stops. If I remove it or use a different third-party memory card, everything works perfectly.
What’s strange is that this memory card worked fine for a long time and then suddenly started causing this.
I already opened the memory card up and cleaned the connector pins/contacts, but that didn’t fix it.
Has anyone had an original Sony PS1 memory card interfere with controller input like this? Does this sound like dirty contacts deeper inside, cracked solder joints, or is the card just dead?
