Hey guys, looking for some advice on dealer-recommended maintenance for my Tacoma. Trying to figure out what I should do now vs dealer upsells. I want truck to last for a long time.
Truck is a 2021 Tacoma with around 80k miles.
Dealer recommended:
- Transmission fluid service – $319
- Front brake pads + resurface – $362
- Front/rear diff + transfer case service – $354
- Brake fluid service – $227
- Power steering service – $233
- Fuel injection service – $227
- “Tune engine non-platinum” – $756
- Reverse light bulb – $31
Truck drives fine overall. No major symptoms besides normal wear/braking.
From what I’ve researched so far:
- brakes + diff/t-case service seem legit
- transmission drain/fill maybe makes sense depending on mileage
- fuel injection service sounds kinda like a dealer upsell
- $756 tune-up seems insane unless plugs are truly overdue.
Mainly wondering:
- Which of these are actually important on Tacomas?
- Which are easy DIY jobs?
- What’s a realistic independent shop price for these?
- Anything here you’d completely skip?
Appreciate any advice from Tacoma owners/mechanics. Thanks y’all wasn’t raised with dad who was mechanically inclined so trying to learn to do alot of this for my future kids.
