Situation in Surat BRTS tech as per recent visit in surat city:
👉 Tripod turnstile gates are mainly working for NCMC smart cards 👉 QR tickets from the Sitilink app are not integrated with these gates
So what happens in real life?
- People generate QR tickets
- But no proper automated scanning at entry
- Staff/watchmen manually check (or sometimes don’t)
This creates a weird half-digital system: ➡️ Smart card = automated ➡️ QR ticket = manual
That’s not a Smart City—that’s unfinished integration
Big point no one is talking about: If QR + tripod system is fully implemented: 👉 There will be less need for manual checking by watchmen/staff 👉 This can save operational costs 👉 And improve efficiency + reduce human error
Right now, money is being spent on:
- Tech infrastructure (tripods, app)
- AND manual manpower
Why both, when one system could handle it?
Questions for Sitilink / SMC:
- Why no QR integration with gates?
- Why maintain parallel systems?
- Why not use automation to reduce costs?
What should be done:
- Enable QR scanning on tripod gates
- Fully integrate app + hardware
- Gradually reduce dependency on manual checking
Otherwise this is just: 👉 “Smart” on paper 👉 Manual in reality
Anyone else think this is just wasted potential?
