Telemarketing or sales calls
I’m trying to get a sense of certain reactions to my telemarketing and sales calls.
Context: I am a remote telemarketer calling my company’s customers to sell them products. It’s a supplements company, so the people that use these products sometimes see life changing results. Others just use them to be preventive and maintain health. Others don’t use them or need them, and that is fine.
Situation: some people right away go “no thank you”, “not interested”, or “that’s not something I’m dealing with” as soon as I pitch a product. Which again is fine.
In previous experiences, me replying “hey that’s totally fine, we actually also help people with (x) and (y) health concerns. Are those things you’re dealing with?” has opened up conversations with people that actually found products that bettered their life. So I do that, but sometimes I get this response that almost feels like people feel threatened, as if someone was running towards them with a knife in their hand. They start saying “HEY, HEY! I TOLD YOU NO!”. Which to me is surprising because I try to put myself in their shoes and if it was me being called for something I’m not interested in, I would just say “I’m not interested in that either”. But everyone is different.
Questions:
How would you personally react and why?
What is going on here? Are people so fatigued with sales and telemarketing calls that they immediately check out? Or is it the risk of being scammed over a phone transaction?
How do you think the situation could be salvaged?
Also, some people buy from our website consistently and we are allowed to offer them discounts so they buy from the rep instead of the website and they do not need to provide any sensitive information as it is already encrypted on the system. Some people just straight up decline which completely amazes me, I’m offering you a lower price on the exact same product you already buy. Have you been in a similar situation and why have you reacted the way you have?
Please be as lengthy and comprehensive as you can
