Unspoken rules at bigger companies

Settling into a new job and things are going well. I've been lucky and had a few of my jobs go really smooth and received good feedback from clients, managers, etc.

Talking to other techs though I've heard a mix of advice. Some of the guys who are pretty well established just tell me keep doing what I'm doing. Others guys who are also great sparkies tell me to basically keep my head down and try be invisible otherwise management will paint me as requiring a lot of help/lacking confidence.

I'm pretty confident technically but I do tend to hit my managers up to tell them about specific situations. I always tell them what I'm planning on doing about the situation but more so I'm just wanting to validate that my plan on solving particular problems is fine with them.

Do you guys reckon it's better if I cut back communication and just quietly get shit done?

I'm used to working at a smaller mob where I can call the boss a cunt and give him a run down of my projects in the same breath. I get on well with everyone but do notice people bitch about other people more than I'm used to. Not sure if working at a bigger place is making me overthink.
