any advice for students trying to get university level research experience other than asking your own professors or cold emailing others?

only asking because none of my professors seem to be allowing students in their labs and nobody that is actively accepting students have answered my emails, even with follow ups.

i’m considering reaching out to other departments + professors as well as universities near my hometown over the summer. please advise 😕
