I have a whole campaign ready to roll, the main theme being magic is being ‘drained’ at its core.
I want to slowly escalate the effects as the campaign goes on, starting with just visual effects to show the players it’s happening. Eventually scaling up to messing with spells cast.
I weighed the idea of having a table to roll on;
1- spell fizzles, slot spent
2- spell goes off, weakened
3-4 no effect
5- spell goes off, overpowered
6- wild magic effect (dm discretion)
But I’m not sure it fits because magic is literally being consumed at its core, which seems to me would only weaken it? Or maybe cause things to be more difficult to cast/hit with?
I also don’t want to make the game annoying for the players as I’m sure it won’t be just pure melee pcs lol
Any advice would be helpful, someone with some more experience please give me your opinion- what effects would you have take place? Is overpowering a spell too off-theme to include? how would you escalate the effects? Any suggestions?
TIA!
