Summer Associate Advice
i am going to be a 1L summer asscoiate and i have about 3 weeks of downtime. i want to know what i can do in the next 3 weeks that will better prepare me for the internship. i want to know the best way to spend these next 3 weeks - anything at all.
i don't want to hear 'just relax the summer is just a big party where you will be networking'. i understand that will be most of it, and of course, i will not miss any of those networking calls, coffees, lunches, dinners, events. i will go to all of them.
i want to know what i can do that will set me apart. i will be joining the m&a practice, so i will be brushing up on my finance (finance undergrad). anything helps. right now honestly i am just thinking about working on my typing (i am painfully slow typer) and Microsoft excel/word/outlook. just to give a bit of background i have 5 years of finance experience - so i would hold myself ahead a bit of my peers in terms of general office ediquite. i spoke to a partner and he said that AI is going to reduce the summer associate class in the next few years and it will help to know how to navigate that. as of right now i will be brushing up on finance, typing faster, learning word, and learning AI. please feel free to give me any advice.
