Is there a print or a mod to make to prevent my new spools from popping the filament off the real and over the reel holder as the axis moves down to start a print?

I load a brand new spool, then place the filament on the holder, the extruder is at the very top position after the previous print ends. When the new print starts and then it lowers to level the build plate the spool doesn't spin and just pops off about 3 loops of filament up and over the spool holder. If I'm not paying attention the print gets stuck a few minutes in. Is there a trick or a print that I can make that will maybe prevent this from happening. I have a dry box but do like having the spool attached to the mini rather than separate.
