Hello Air Force recruiting team,

My wife took the ASVAB and went to MEPS last November. Around that time, she had her annual check-up and was diagnosed with gallstones. She informed her recruiter, who advised her to wait one year to determine whether a waiver or surgery would be required.

Since then, she has been evaluated by a doctor who confirmed that she does not need surgery because she has no symptoms. We obtained a doctor’s note and submitted it to her recruiter.

We understand that she may need to wait until November to reapply, but we would like to know what the process will look like at that point. Will surgery still be required even if her doctor has determined it isn’t necessary? Also, how difficult is it typically to obtain a waiver for this condition?

Thank you for your guidance.
