Did Alexander I of Russia fake his own death?
Good afternoon fellow historians!
I am reading a book detailing the entire events of WW1 A “World Undone - The Story of the Great War” by G.J. Meyer.
There is a subsection that discusses the history of the Romanovs, and he mentions that it was always Alexander’s dream to fake his own death and join a monastery. Then he says that after they opened his casket years later they found it empty.
Do we have any evidence of him actually faking his death? If not, how do we explain the empty coffin.
Thanks all
