I’m a 17 year old and in NC (don’t know if that affects opportunities with gaming development or not) and it’s getting around the time where I have to really think about what I want to do with my life. Gaming development, 3D and 2D, has also been a passion for me since I was a very very young child lol, but I am thinking about pursuing that as a career because I really do think that I can excel in this field and I am very passionate and creative when it comes to gaming. Idk if anyone here in this subreddit community is from NC or is experienced in gaming development, but do you guys think that becoming a gaming developer is a good idea? Is it really feasible or reasonable in this economy/its salary? Like is the gaming industry in a good place right now?
I’m also definitely not into a 4 year university or college in general, but if there are any programs (cheaper, 2 year, good education, etc), I would love to hear any tips! I know that becoming a developer will be hard, but I am willing to learn. I just want to know if going into the video game industry is actually a good idea and can be achieved through a short-time, part-time, and productive way or program. But please, tell me anything you guys know about the gaming industry or any tips, experiences, knowledge, etc about the industry! Anything will be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much for reading!
Also, sorry if this post was long!
TL;DR
I want to go into the gaming industry, but is it actually a good idea in terms of its salary, the duration (short or reasonable preferably) and cost (very manageable preferably) of its program (no 4 year university preferably), its way of working, its experience, and how people like/enjoy the job genuinely or how they are treated.
