Hello all,
I just recently picked up a Winchester 1885 in 32-20. Headspacing checked out so I went to the range to test fire it. After the first shot, the lever had seized up pretty good. Managed to get it open and saw that the primer had been penetrated and the firing pin left a good scrape on it. Otherwise, the brass looked fine, no streaking, extractor marks, or anything else like that, and I know the ammo is fine as it shot perfectly fine out of my revolver I have chambered in it.
With what info I had, I figured that the firing pin must be overpenetrating. I brought the rifle back home and decided to see if the primer would be pierced on a spent casing. The primer didn't get pierced, but the same thing happened with the lever seizing up and the primer still got scraped, as seen in the 2nd photo. Now I'm almost certain this is something to do with the firing pin. Has anyone else seen something like this and know if the firing pin is adjustable? Or have any other ideas what it could be?
