PGWP APPROVED! Complex case
Finally, I can sleep peacefully! 🇨🇦
I just got my PGWP approved today (May 12) after a ghost update on the IRCC portal. If you’re waiting, check your portal manually—I never even got an email notification!
Timeline:
• Applied: January 5, 2026
• Approved: May 12, 2026
• Program: 5-Year Bachelor’s Degree
My Case (The "Complex" Parts)
I was stressed because my profile had two major red flags that usually scare people into hiring expensive lawyers. I did this 100% on my own using only the IRCC website and advice from my University International Student Advisors (ISAs).
• Academic Misconduct Suspension: I was suspended for 4 months. I didn't hide this or let an agent "sugarcoat" it. Under IRCC policy, this falls under an excused absence/authorized leave (as long as it’s under 150 days).
• Part-Time Semesters in Final Year: I had two part-time semesters. This was because I was doing a CO-OP as part of my course and was only allowed to take one class per semester while working.
What I Submitted (The DIY Checklist)
Since I didn't use an agent, I made sure my "Client Information" section was bulletproof. I submitted:
- Letter of Explanation (LoE): I wrote this myself. I was transparent about the suspension, explaining it was an authorized absence from the university.
- University Support Letters: I got specific letters from my Uni stating:
• The 4-month gap was an "excused absence."
• My part-time status in the final year was a requirement because I was enrolled in the CO-OP term. - CO-OP Proof: My official CO-OP placement letter to show I was still "active" in my program.
My Advice
• Talk to your Uni Advisors: They are better than any agent because they know your school’s specific terminology for "authorized leave."
• Be Honest: IRCC sees your transcripts. If you have a gap, label it correctly as an authorized absence and provide the proof.
• Don't forget the Language Test
Happy to answer any questions for the Jan/Feb cohort still waiting. Hang in there—the ghost updates are real! 🥂
