First Rattlesnake [Mark Twain National Forest, MO]
My ophidiophobia is limited to snakes that could kill me. Luckily where I live venomous snakes are not common and so are not often encountered. I had certainly never seen a rattlesnake before. I was moments away from stepping directly on this snake before I saw it. Scared me pretty bad but once I backed away a bit I was able to calm down and admire it. It never rattled at me which surprises me considering how close I got.
