I’m a second-year Electrical Engineering student, and for my Embedded Systems course, I'm developing a project involving a CAN Bus network with at least 3 nodes.
Project Concept:
I’m building a mini Battery Management/Control System simulation. It will calculate the estimated range of a vehicle based on battery capacity, battery temperature, and engine speed, displaying the results on a central control panel.
Hardware Setup:
• Sensor Nodes: 3x STM32F042K6 boards. I'll use 3 potentiometers to simulate the inputs for battery capacity, temperature, and engine speed.
• Main Control Node: 1x STM32G070RB connected to an OLED screen to process data and display the range.
I need some advice on:
CAN Transceivers: Which specific transceivers would be most compatible with these STM32 boards (e.g., MCP2551, TJA1050, or SN65HVD230)? Since the boards operate at 3.3V, I’m leaning towards 3.3V logic transceivers.
Cabling: What kind of cables should I use for CanH and CanL lines for a small-scale prototype? Is twisted pair necessary for such a short distance?
Prototyping: We are required to solder everything onto a perforated board (perf-board). Do you have any tips for maintaining signal integrity and organizing the power/CAN lines effectively on a perf-board?
