TLDR Had two cycles (last summer + now) where I had ~1 week of dark brown spotting around day 30 instead of my usual heavy, painful period. Didn’t count it as a period, so current cycle is now ~day 54. Now having light cramps + a bit of red blood but still not like my normal period. Wondering if this is PCOS or Vyvanse related and whether I should’ve counted the spotting as a period.

Hi all, looking to see if anyone has had a similar experience or thoughts on what might be going on.

Last summer, around day 30 of my cycle, I had about a week of dark brown spotting. I thought I might be pregnant, but all tests were negative. I didn’t count it as a period because my periods are usually very consistent, with heavy bleeding and extreme cramps for about 2 days, then done by day 4.

Because of that, I logged that cycle as about 60 days.

For context, my cycles are usually pretty regular, but there was a period where they fluctuated between 28 to 38 days. They became more consistent at around 30 days after I left a stressful job late last year.

Fast forward to now. I was diagnosed with ADHD in April and started taking Vyvanse. Around day 30, I had the same thing happen again, about a week of dark brown spotting. Again, I didn’t count it as a period, so I am now on day 54.

Today I am having light cramps and saw some bright red blood when wiping, which makes me think my period is starting, but it still feels different from my usual day 1 since it is lighter and slower to start.

Do you think I should have counted the spotting as my period?
Is it possible that I randomly had two periods that were nothing like my other ones?

Does this sound like an anovulatory cycle (I only found out this was a thing recently)?

Has anyone had a similar experience with their cycle on Vyvanse?

I know Reddit isn’t a doctor, just trying to see if this is something others have experienced while I wait to speak to mine! She’s currently out after surgery.

TIA!
