I'm 55 and an accountant. I have worked in consulting since 2012, going into client businesses to help them with processes, implementing new software, M&A work, etc. When there is a recession, consultants are the first thing to go, and I suspect we are on the cusp of a recession. I feel like I need to start looking for a job ASAP. I live in a smallish town (50k people) which hasn't been a problem because my current job is remote, as clients are nationwide. There are few job opportunities here. I bought a house when interest rates were low (2.5%) so selling my house and moving is not practical.

My last job before consulting was as a Controller (if you are not an accountant, this is someone who oversees the entire accounting of a company) from 2006 - 2012. On our resume we are not supposed to have more than 15 years of experience, but that would mean I would drop the Controller job and just have consulting.

How would I represent a career of consulting on a resume? I do work for one to four clients per year, project length varies. The client names can't be on the resume. The industries I have worked with are extremely varied, non-profit, Universities, Fortune 500, Fortune 100, Software as a Service. I am stumped on how to represent this work in a way that makes sense.
