My wife’s Wrangler was retired from daily driver duty to a weekend toy several years ago. 280,000 miles, 4.0l w/ auto. Was driving it last fall and got a CEL, checked the code and it indicated multiple cylinder misfires. Replaced the coil rail and it started and ran fine, no more CEL. Then one day it wouldn’t start. Replaced the pigtail for the coil, started and ran fine for a few days. Then it wouldn’t run again, would just spin the engine endlessly. Put a fuel pressure tester on it and engine on/not running the pressure would peak at 35psi then trickle down. Remarkably while doing this test the engine decided to start again so I checked pressure while at idle, right around 48psi (see photo). I can’t find my Haynes manual but I read online my engine off pressure should be 49psi, so I am reading this as a bad fuel pump or possibly a crimped line but for its age and mileage I’m thinking pump replacement anyway. Anything else I might be missing?
