What’s the most common amateur swing mistake you see?

Whether you’re a coach, low handicapper, or just someone who watches a lot of swings, what’s the biggest issue you notice in most amateur golf swings?
Could be:
• tempo
• takeaway
• early extension
• over the top
• grip
• weight transfer
• trying to swing too hard
And what’s the simplest fix that actually helped?
Interested to hear what patterns people see most often.

Mobility in the golf swing

Hey all, interested to hear how much you guys prioritise your mobility for golf?

I was speaking to a guy at the range earlier about why he keeps swaying off the ball in transition.

He knew he was doing it too. Every swing he’d fall off the trail side and hang back through impact.

He kept saying:
“I’m trying not to do it but I physically can’t stop.”

He’d already tried loads of swing thoughts and YouTube drills.

Out of curiosity I checked his trail hip mobility and honestly… he had basically no internal rotation at all.

Could barely turn into the trail hip without everything moving with it.

At that point the sway actually made sense.

His body was searching for space because the hip couldn’t rotate properly.

Think a lot of golfers overlook this stuff.

Not every swing fault is just “bad technique”. Sometimes your body literally can’t get into the positions you’re asking it to.

Feel like loads of golfers are trying to fix compensations without realising what’s actually causing them.

Do simulator golfers improve faster because they practice with more structure?

Something I’ve been thinking about recently.

A lot of golfers at the range seem to just hit balls aimlessly, but simulator golfers usually have:

- data

- targets

- feedback

- measurable sessions

Do you think simulator practice actually helps golfers improve faster because it creates more intentional practice?

Or do you think nothing replaces real on-course reps?

Would be interested to hear what people’s handicaps were before vs after getting a sim setup.
