Have never built or stained. Please give some gentle guidance

Hello, so while staining I realized at the end I messed up. In the past I thought using clear coat wood sealer it said not to shake or stir so I assumed that was the rule with all stain products. I used a pre stain product on this and then began staining it. Right away I thought it was light for dark walnut but didn't know better what it should look like when applying.

On the second to last panel I dipped the brush and it suddenly looked like I dragged the brush in dirt or paint. Didn't know what was happening until I realized I had used almost all the liquid and dipped into a settled pigment I wasn't aware of.

I kinda got it done and was upset wanting to stop the project and just cut it up. I feel dumb for wasting money on stain products when I wanted to leave it bare or clear.

After giving it a couple hours to sit I tried stirring and brushing a spot, it was worse than I imagined... after letting that sit while cleaning up I decided to try wiping that dark section off and it cleaned up kinda okay and I'm not sure if I should finish it like that.

Should I sand it? Restain it? Do I need to buy new stain?
