I have heard this in conversations with multiple managers (direct manager) that it’s an employers market in the context where you don’t have leverage, keep working as I say, keep grinding for promotion, justifying unnecessary growth feedback (hinting toward this context).

While it’s true that it’s employers market, these managers who feel proud of it, will eventually learn that they lost trust with their team. Eventually, when market opens up, their team will leave them in an instant.

If you’re a manager playing this short-term game because it’s employer market — you are actually losing. When market opens up, your best people will be first ones to leave. Long term game is always empathy and trust.

People remember how they were treated when they had no options.

Thanks to Claude for fun title :)
