Hi everyone, this is my first post and I hope I’m not doing anything wrong.

I recently bought a Pentax 17 and started shooting right away on vacation using Portra 400 film. Unfortunately, the results turned out very inconsistent. A few pictures are sharp, but most are (too) grainy and relatively dark. I probably took most of the photos in Auto mode. I’m sure I took some in P mode as well.

I'd really appreciate some advice, especially regarding the following questions:

- I set the ISO to 400. Should I have done that differently with Portra 400?

- Is it because of the auto mode?

- Is it because of how the film was developed? I had it developed at a professional Lab.
