I'm making a costume for my daughter for the Renaissance Festival using this pattern from Etsy https://www.etsy.com/listing/214333123/renaissance-dress-pattern-pdf .
I'm having trouble with measuring the elastic for the skirt. Every time I have her try the skirt on it's too big and slips off of her, then I'll cut 3-5 inches off of the elastic, try again, and it still needs 3-5 more inches cut off. I started out using a 1/4" elastic but have switched to a 1/2" elastic but I'm running into the same problem. I'm just chasing my tail at this point.
I can only assume that the elastic I have is too weak for the weight of the skirt which is just regular ol' cotton, but it's a lot of it since it's a long gathered skirt. So is there a certain type of elastic I should be looking for? Or is something else happening here?
If nothing else I can just get some cord to just tie it off, but I would prefer an elastic solution.
