Finally, a Hwoarang figure that actually looks like Hwoarang!
Hey everyone! I’m just so hyped about this new figure I got that I had to come here and brag a little.
Hwarang from Tekken has been my absolute favorite character for as long as I can remember. I’ve been collecting figures for over 10 years, but it’s always been a struggle because there just aren't any good Hwarang figures out there. I own every official licensed product and even some unofficial ones, but honestly? They’re all pretty low-quality and disappointing.
So, I eventually thought, "If it doesn't exist, I’ll just have to make it." My original goal was just to have a high-end, top-tier head sculpt, but before I knew it, I was building a full 12-inch figure. I’m usually a 6-inch collector, but somehow this project pushed me into the 1/6 scale world first.
I don't have the skills to do it myself, so I commissioned everything—the head sculpt, the paint, and the outfit—to professional artists. Since this was my first time doing a full custom build, I was half-excited and half-worried that it might fail.
But I figured if I’m going to do this, I should go all out so I don’t have any regrets. I reached out to the best of the best. The artist I contacted is very selective about the commissions he takes, but luckily, he found Hwarang interesting enough to accept my request.
For an average guy like me, commissioning a pro to build a custom figure is a pretty big leap. But what can I say? I just wanted it that badly lol. I started playing Tekken because of Hwarang, and my goal wasn't just to be good at the game—it was to be the best Hwarang player. I spent about 5 years of my 20s grinding the game, to the point where I actually gained a bit of a reputation in the Korean Hwarang community.
He’s that special to me, so I felt like this was a "once-in-a-lifetime" investment.
The outfit is still in the works, so I’m patiently waiting for that to be finished. But even without the clothes, I received the finished head and body yesterday, and it turned out even better than I imagined. It turned out even better than I imagined, and I’m just over the moon. I’ve been staring at it all day. I’m at an age where not many things get me excited anymore, but man, I haven't felt this way in a long time.
I really wanted to share this joy, but nobody around me really gets this hobby. To them, I’m probably just a middle-aged guy who hasn't grown up yet lol. Since the figure turned out so well, I decided to post it on a few Korean communities and here on Reddit. (By the way, I used Google Gemini to translate this! I’m usually a lurker because I’m lazy, but my happiness outweighed my laziness today. It’s such a great feeling that I just had to share it.)
The photos really don't do it justice—it looks so much better in person.
I hope you guys enjoy the look, and I hope you all have a great day. Cheers!
