Hey Mi Gente,

Looking for some input about what the personal experiences and opinions of Las Terrenas are. I am planning a "Primo's Trip" with 18 of my cousins aged 20- mid 30's. Our family is originally from the Santiago area and we visit often but have never been to Las Terrenas. We wanted somewhere close to the beach, but don't want to feel like we're at a generic resort (the type that play Z-100 hits in the lobby/ pool. Give me some típico!). Within it group, I'd say most the group is adventurous and enjoy the outdoors, while a few prefer to lounge.

Is it a pure tourist town? Or are there any remnants of Dominican culture or does it feel disconnected?

Reading reviews, it seems like it's been gentrified to suit tourists and I'm trying to gauge to what degree. Chat GPT is recommending "Italian restaurants" by the water which seems like a Yellow Flag.

P.S.: I know this is something that I can look up on Google or Chat GPT, but wanted to know what the opinions of others who have visited here when considering other parts of the island.
