Reaching out to my fellow BWT after a disastrous fall landed me on my butt with a dislocated and fractured patella with a high grade torn medial patellofemoral ligament/medial patellar retinaculum. I am devastated as I’m booked on an all inclusive wedding vacation over Memorial Day weekend and it’s starting to look like I may be needing surgery. I got my MRI this am and have a sports medicine surgeon appt Wednesday morning where I’ll get additional X-rays. I am working with NYU hospital and have had great care so far with them. My main concern is I am a single, 39yo female living in the third floor of a walk up. I cannot work, and I was JUST getting back on my feet after the financial blow of moving here a year ago. I do have short term disability insurance, which I’m looking into getting going asap when I talk to the surgeon on Wednesday and get a picture of what I can expect. It’s not going to be enough to cover all of my bills however. I’m scared as I’ve never had a surgery and I’m a wimp about pain. My question for you queens - are there city services or help I can avail myself of that I cannot think of in this moment of stress? I am normally very active and I’m climbing the walls in my tiny room already and it’s day 3. Getting around is miserable and taking cars all over is price limiting when I’m already going to be really hurting for cash already. Have you had a knee injury and have a life hack for me and my recovery or convalescence? I would LOVE to know! I’m trying hard to do all that I can to expedite my return to functionality so that I am not sitting around crying as much. I hate asking for help but I need it right now. TIA. Usually I just lurk and comment in here, so if this isn’t an allowed post please delete or LMK. ❤️🩹
