Changing a wick on a kerosine heater

Hey folks! As winter approaches, my mum is setting up her kero heater and the wick is long overdue for a change. The issue we're facing is that the instructions with the new wick doesn't align with the model heater she's currently packing. The wick sleeve isn't disengaging

Any advice would be appreciated but not critical. She's had this one a few years and looking to upgrade anyways. Regarding an upgrade any suggestions are welcome, she's researching and looking to have diesel heater.
