I am so sick of being told to find my passion by people who fell into their careers accidentally

Every single person who tells me to follow my passion got their career by accident. My uncle who loves real estate fell into it because his buddy needed help with a deal in 2004. My manager who's passionate about operations was an English major who needed a job. The LinkedIn influencer telling me to find my why was a failed musician who learned excel.

Nobody followed their passion. They got good at something, it started paying well, and they reverse engineered a story about passion after the fact. And now they tell people like me who genuinely don't have a burning calling that we're doing it wrong.

Maybe the problem isn't that I lack passion. Maybe the problem is that passion is the wrong framework entirely and nobody wants to admit it because it makes a worse Instagram caption than "do what you love."
