I finally looked up why orange cats are orange

This is for all the orange cat owners. I always felt like orange cats are just different, so I finally looked up why they are orange in the first place. Orange cats are not really a breed, they have been around in many different cat breeds for a long time. The orange color comes from a pigment gene connected to the X chromosome, which is also why so many orange cats are male. That warm red/yellow pigment is what gives them those ginger, cream, marmalade, or full pumpkin shades. Most orange cats also show tabby markings, so that’s why so many of them look like tiny striped tigers with that little “M” on their forehead. I know the one brain cell thing is a joke, but honestly it fits them too well. No matter the breed, orange cats always seem to carry the same confused, confident, chaotic little energy. Maybe I’m biased, but orange cats really feel like their own category of cat.
