Erasmus at TU Eindhoven – Thesis in different department, will I lose my grant?
Hey everyone,
I’m in a bit of a confusing situation with my Erasmus exchange and would really appreciate some advice, especially from anyone who has been to TU Eindhoven or dealt with cross-department thesis work.
I’ve been nominated for an Erasmus exchange at TU Eindhoven through the Chemical Engineering and Chemistry department.
However, I found a thesis opportunity with a professor from the Mechanical Engineering department, and I’ve already had a meeting with him and discussed my thesis work. His research group/lab is also within Mechanical Engineering.
Now the situation is:
- The Chem department told me that if I’m doing my thesis in Mechanical Engineering, I should apply through that department instead.
- The Mechanical Engineering department told me to apply via their internship/thesis Mobility Online portal, and mentioned that a formal Erasmus agreement is not required for this route.
- But they also said that my home university and their department do not have an Erasmus agreement.
So my concern is:
👉 If I switch to applying through Mechanical Engineering as an internship/thesis student,
will I lose my Erasmus status and the Erasmus scholarship?
This is a big deal for me because I’m relying on the Erasmus grant financially (Netherlands is expensive 😅).
Has anyone been in a similar situation where:
- You were nominated under one department
- But did your thesis in another department
- And still kept your Erasmus status?
Or does switching to the internship route automatically mean giving up Erasmus?
Any advice or experience would really help 🙏
