So long story short the key assembly stopped working on my 2010 TDI. I thought I could simply replace the key assembly and move on with the vehicle. However it seems like it would require a tow and key re-program.

The car has 290,000 miles on it. Engine and transmission are solid. Besides a DMF replacement and solenoid on the AC, I’ve had zero repairs. It’s been a workhorse and I’d love to keep it a few more years. Just wondering if there’s an easy fix like always having the old key fob nearby when I use the new key. I just don’t think $1,000 or more to get it running is worth it.

I was dumb and bought keys and a new assembly online. I already got everything apart. Just trying to see if I should cut my losses and donate the car or if it’s still fixable.
