Hello all. I'm a graduate holding an buy-side analyst position in a fairly new firm. I source and analyze prospective deals in the Lower Middle Market, typically but not always below $10M in annual revenues. This includes some LBO modelling, preliminary FDD or reconciling financial statements, and preparing the investment memos.

The firm is an Independent Sponsor in the funding sense and much more of a HoldCo structurally and board-wise. Deal flow is there, several Heads of Terms have been underway, no closes yet. Verticals are majorly in the digital space where I have no tech expertise or operational involvement.

As a new firm, the role is on remote contract. Not sure if all that makes clear it wouldn't count as a PE role label-wise. One year after joining, I'm considering making a pivot into Big 4 transaction advisory or FDD, under the hypothesis deals won't advance to closing soon. PE, whether LMM or above, is the long-term goal.

Regarding academic background, I come from STEM at a top regional university and hold a minor in accounting. No European target school.

All feedback is welcome.
