Looking for advice/support with my almost 5-month-old’s sleep.

We thought we hit the jackpot with him because he used to be an amazing sleep, taking about 5 naps a day, going down independently when we placed him in the crib awake, and sleeping almost through the night.

Then almost overnight, everything changed. He started refusing naps and now cries when we place him in the crib and can’t settle. We’ve tried shortening wake windows, lengthening wake windows, moving to 4 naps, moving to 3 naps… and nothing seems to consistently help. Once he is down, he usually stays asleep thankfully, but really fights going down.

Right now, the only thing that works is nursing him to sleep and then transferring him to the crib once he’s asleep. He used to use a pacifier but now refuses that. I’m happy I have one solution, but that means I’m the only one that can ever get his to sleep, which is not ideal.

We’re feeling a bit lost. Has anyone else gone through this around 5 months? Did it end up being a sleep progression/regression, schedule issue, separation anxiety, etc.? How did you get through it and help your baby go down happily again?

It’s really hard hearing him cry and not being able to figure out what soothes him. Any advice or similar experiences would be so appreciated.
