Bathroom sink clog and downstairs ceiling stains — what usually happens? [CT]

Hi everyone, I’m a tenant in Connecticut and wanted to ask for some advice.

My bathroom sink recently overflowed and caused some water stains on the downstairs bathroom ceiling. The sink was seriously clogged at the time(Since I don't use that sink very often, I initially thought the water was just draining slowly, but I didn't expect it to be completely clogged). I have a video showing that the water level barely went down for about 30 minutes. My downstairs neighbor also saw that the sink was not draining.

Later, I used a plastic drain snake(as my landlord advised) and removed mostly hair/soap-scum buildup, and the sink started draining normally again. I didn’t find anything unusual like food scraps, grease, paper towels, plastic, etc.

I informed both my downstairs neighbor and my landlord on the same day the overflow happened, but no one followed up with me until about a week later, when my landlord said the downstairs ceiling may need repair.

I’m not trying to avoid responsibility, but I’m wondering how this usually works. Would this normally be treated as a tenant issue, a plumbing/maintenance issue, or something shared? Should I ask for an inspection report and itemized invoice before agreeing to pay anything?
