Family car with lots of legroom
Hi people of r/carsireland!
I'm a long time lurker and have learned so much from you guys.
I'm a mam with 2 kids under the age of 2 and running out of space in our Hyuandi Tuscon (diesel, never had DPF issues)
Midweek I drive 20km a day and most weekends we're doing 2 - 5 hour drives to families down the country. I like the Tuscon for the height and find it easy to drive but it no longer meets our needs, which are:
Fits two buggies, plus
Grocery shop or
Suitcase / overnight bags
Along with kids toys, scooter etc
Fits two rear facing car seats.
This is the big one. I didn't realise how much space they need, especially how much leg room the front seats loose to accommodate them. The front passenger seat in our Tuscon is now very tight. Baby #2 is still in infant seat behind the driver but will be moving to rear facing in a few months.
From following this sub it feels like a Skoda Superb estate will tick all the boxes.
My issue is I'm scared to drive an estate as the everyday car! It sounds stupid but I'm afraid of trying to park it, especially in small and busy school car parks, on street parking and tight multi-story car parks. I feel like I won't be able to judge blind spots, turning and driving into car spaces easily. Any advice or experience of partners with similar concerns?
Q1. Would you recommend any alternatives to the Superb estate?
I've looked up other suvs and I think the issue with the rear facing car seats and front seat space will still be a challenege in most makes. Anyone have any positive experience?
Q2. Any advice on the best superb estate model and engine size. Budget is 25k but could stretch. From looking on done deal I think my options are 2019 - 2022
• 2.0 diesel
• 1.6 diesel
• 1.5 petrol
• 1.4 petrol hybrid
Would you recommend any of these over the other?
Thanks for any advice 🙂
