I work for an adolescent RTC as a Primary Therapist. When I was originally hired on, I was hired as the Individual Therapist and there was a second clinician who was the Family Therapist. The company decided to “restructure” (aka was losing money and decided to consolidate roles) and now they made the individual and family therapist into ONE role, the Primary Therapist.
Fast forward to now, and I’ve started to get my first couple of families… It’s been awful. Not only because family therapy is tough to do on its own, but also I feel like all the rapport I’ve built with these kids goes out the window once I started doing family therapy with them. I can feel the shift from when I was doing only individual therapy, to now doing both. It just doesn’t feel.. healthy?
I should be done with my BBS hours by the end of June. I’m debating on getting out of this company once I hit those hours because of how this new dynamic is rolling out.
Is there anyone else who has or has had a role like this? How have you managed these types of cases where you’re not only the individual therapist, but also the family therapist? Any support would be helpful.
