Amp Suggestions for Modern BF Tones
On the hunt for a new amp. I have a 100 watt port city pearl with a 12” port city cab currently. I don’t gig often anymore, when I do, it’s bars/clubs, no church gigs etc. The Port City has served me well for 20 years, it’s just too loud for my current needs. Here is my short list. Budget around $2-$3K unless I decide to go full Two Rock. I play rock, blues, jazz, r&b, and jamband type stuff with a few gigs. I play a TA cobra semi hollow (HH) and a custom shop strat (HSS). I want a great sounding pedal platform, early breakup isn’t that important to me. I’ve owned ‘65 Super, a ‘64 Deluxe, and a ‘72 super over the years. I do not want an old amp. I want zero noise and easy service. I want real tube reverb, I have tons of digital already.
Louis Electric Columbia (haven’t played one)
Dr. Z Z Plus (Haven’t played one yet)
Headstrong Lil King ($3K new I know). Played one, sounded great, then saw a few videos of parts breakdowns and can’t see myself laying $3K for one of these.
3rd Power Wooly Coats (never played one)
Carr Rambler (played many of these. Definitely the front runner)
