Has anyone ever upgraded their home before fatFIRE? We live in a VHCOL area and are considering purchasing a $3.5M home in our neighborhood. One spouse has already RE, the other spouse is still employed, but the RE is coming soon.

One spouse is concerned about spending so much on an extravagant home, other spouse says $10M liquid assets is plenty to afford a $3.5M home.

Any thoughts to help us think through this? We also are wrestling with the optics of such an extravagant home. I know our networth is nobody’s business but we have always been stealthy.
