Having hard time getting hired as entry level

I completed a phlebotomy program at my local college a little while ago and originally I actually wanted to do EKG, but they weren’t offering it that quarter so I went with phlebotomy instead. I finished the program, got my certificate, and honestly thought finding an entry-level job wouldn’t be THIS difficult.
I’ve already been rejected twice from a major hospital near me, and almost every posting wants 6+ months of experience even for “entry level” roles. My old phleb lab instructor actually works per diem at that same hospital and told me he helped another former student get hired by vouching for her directly with the lab manager. He offered to do the same for me and even wrote me a reference letter, which I’m super grateful for.
I’ve been applying anyway, including to positions that “prefer experience,” but it still feels discouraging because it seems like everyone wants experience before giving you the chance to get experience. I also applied to a few Labcorp positions and haven’t heard back yet.
At this point I mainly want the job to build clinical experience and strengthen my nursing school application for next fall, but the process has honestly been frustrating.
