I'm going to try and keep this as short as possible while still giving enough info about each vehicle we're considering letting go of.
My wife and I own 3 vehicles that are paid off and I also have a company truck I can use for personal use. All 3 vehicles rarely get driven due to my wife working from home and my child doing digital learning. We are keeping our 2010 Honda Fit that we bought new since the whole family can fit and it's excellent on fuel. There is a possibilty that my work truck may get taken away so I may keep one of the vehicles in the event it does happen. The company will give me an allowance and pay for the gas if that does happen. They will not pay for the maintenance. Side note... most of my driving is highway and I do quite a bit of driving. I will say that I really don't want to get rid of either of them, but there is no sense in having 3 cars that rarely get driven or driven at all. My concerns listed are if/when my work truck gets taken and I need a vehicle or just keeping one of them around as a spare vehicle in case the Honda breaks down.
Without further ado, here are two vehicles in question...
1) 1998 Ford Ranger XLT 2WD w/3.0 V6, auto trans and just under 31,000 original miles. It was rarely driven when new then sat for roughly 10-12 years due to illness until we inherited it after the family member who owned it passed away. We spent a few thousand getting it back on the road (I did the work). It is mechanically sound with no leaking or smoking. However, there are some kinks that need to be worked out from sitting so long. It drives great considering how long it sat. My concern is issues that might arrise from sitting so long. I do quite a bit of driving and can't afford to be broken down on the side of the road. All though I haven't really had any mechanical issues during the roughly 10,000 miles I've driven it.
2) 2011 Scion xB w/auto trans and just over 201,000 miles. I'm the third owner and it was very well maintained by the previous owners according to the vehicle report I ran before buying. I have not really had any issues other than replacing a leaking valve cover gasket and the alternator. It does consume oil which is common on these (about a quart every 3-4k at the moment). With it having lots of miles there are some things that most likely need replacing like suspension parts and possibly motor/trans mounts. It does not leak or smoke and runs pretty well. My concern on this one is the mileage and the oil consumption. It's a Toyota and will probably run forever if I keep the oil consumption in check.
