While Duren’s "20-10" stat lines look impressive on a box score, anyone watching the games with a critical eye can see the harsh reality: Jalen Duren is a liability to our winning culture.
1. The "Stat Padding" Illusion vs. Defensive Bankruptcy
Basketball is won on both ends of the floor. Duren possesses elite physical tools, yet his defensive awareness is among the worst for starting centers in this league. His inability to track rotations, his late help-side defense, and his lack of rim protection have turned our paint into a "highway" for opposing guards. A center who cannot anchor a defense is a luxury we cannot afford.
2. The Danger of the Max Contract "Calamity"
Offering Duren a Max or near-Max extension would be a catastrophic mistake. Under the new CBA, financial flexibility is everything. Do not let the fear of "losing a young talent" prevent you from making the right move. Trade Jalen Duren for pieces that actually complement our core and fit a modern, defensive-minded system.
