So I'll try to keep it short. My beloved Lincoln tried to jump onto a couch and his backside went limp. Instant vet to neurologoist. MRI. Ruptured disc in his lower throacic spine that compressed spinal cord. They did the surgery the next day, 3 day stay at vet and back with me. Vet said they removed almost all of the broken disc and he should make a good recovery but his age/size they said who knows because every dog is different.

Crated/confined for like 2 months at the start. Still restricted access in house. Mentally before and after hes still the same. Acting like an energetic pupppy. Even when it happened he was dragging his backside around like nothing was wrong. Crazy guy.

Anyways my question is at what point do I know the after effects are perm? Like he still has a help em up harness I use because I don't feel like he can go #2 on his own still. If he walks NORMAL pace he walks completely normal. ANything exciting he walks sideways or falls for a second. One back foot still drags his nail if hes on hardwood floor(which we don't let him on, just to get outside he has to walk through it).

This happened last week of Janurary. I know i read sometimes it can take 6 months or even 9 months for full recovery. Like the dude still wants to run, play, jump, etc even though I don't let him. I do give him more room in the living room but obviously nothing to climb, jump, stairs etc.

Anyone have a big dog with this and how long did it take them to fully back to normal? I just have a feeling this is the new normal which is fine because like I said, mentally nothing changed with him but I was hoping for his sake he could get a little better.
