Puppy During Hunting Season
Im expecting to get a lab puppy mid September- October. Thought this would be a good year for a puppy as we likely won’t get a moose tag so that leaves me open for training and a lot of grouse hunting, maybe even start some waterfowl! End goal is a flushing dog and possible duck dog (just haven’t really done any duck hunting so that would be new to me)
I’m wondering if what people think about bringing it hunting in the early weeks, I don’t want to make it gun shy so I’m hesitant but also think exposure is the way to go? Start it with rides on the quad, some walking in the bush, maybe shoot a few birds with the 22. before pulling out the shotgun or shoot birds with it in the truck. Try to get it excited about birds and associate the shot with a bird.
Let me know your opinions! I’ve heard mixed things about it so I’m not sure and don’t want to screw up this part!
