At my center we take whole blood, double red cells, and platelets, today we had a guy come in wanting to donate for the first time, I ask “okay do you want to do whole blood or doubles?” He asked what the difference was, I explain whole blood we just take a pint of blood and send it off to our other facility to be separated into different components, where as double reds we are only taking the red blood cells, and you are getting back the plasma, platelets, and white blood cells.
When I tell you this man looked at me so disgusted, and with a dead serious face goes “ugh what would I do with those??” 😭😭😭 he thought we were just going to send him home with a bag of them. It’s been a while since I’ve laughed that hard
