Problems with an old modded BGT during dialogue

Hey, I'm trying to find someone to help me out. I have a very old modded BGT version of the original games (localized in German and old enough to have chosen BigPicture AI over SCS as it was more developed at the time!) which runs well on my Win10 desktop. I want to finish it before tackling a EE run with newer mods some other time.

I have more than a few mods (NPCs, big quest mods, fixpacks, portraits) installed with the BigWorld Project mod list and installer from back then. I have fixed some minor problems and hang-ups before via NearInfinity but now I don't really know what to do.

During the final confrontation with Irenicus in Hell a cut scene and dialogue starts where he comes out of the door and my companions all say something profound. For one of my custom NPCs, Ascalons dwarven smith Breagar, the dialog box appears for a short moment, then the scene and game freeze (order of dialog: Kelsey, Breagar, crash). I can see in Helljon.dlg that every NPC is supposed to say something in a certain order and in Breagars answer there are actions for setting a global variable (Kelsey does this, too) and actions that clear everything and start the next cutscene and the fight (Kelsey doesn't have that). I cant find a way to easily delete just those actions (haven't fiddled with the RAW data yet and don't really know how).
If I dismiss or kill Breagar before the fight everything runs smoothly so the problem should be with that mod (and not the cutscene itself). I could use that "solution" as he gets resurrected by the elves after the fight but I don't really want that.

Can I comment out or delete his dialog injection safely? I tried just deleting his one line but the game crashes even harder after that. Does anyone have any other ideas?
