Hi guys, I had a question, im in NY/NJ area I’m really interested in IONM and would love to get into the field. I think what kinda scares me is that I have no neuroscience background like most people do. Am I able to get a future job without a bachelors in neuroscience? Because it seems like most require it. I would rather do the educational+clinicals route instead of the on the job training route. I already applied to two programs just waiting to hear back does everyone in the field have background in biology and neuroscience??? I already work in the OR area so I have a good stance on how that environment operates which I feel is good to have compared to someone who has never stepped foot in the OR, seen a surgery or worked in healthcare. My original plan was to go into POLYSOMNGRAPHY at a CC try to get registered in Poly, EEG and ekg(the program at the CC has you do classes in all 3 fields and clinicals so you’re able to sit for the boards at the end) but my overall end goal was to get into IONM. I don’t want that route only because by the time I start and finish the program it will be mid 2029 and I would want to work in poly for a year then go to eeg then ionm. Just a long path that I feel I will regret idk. Should I go to school for EEG first then later on do ionm ? Or just do ionm?
Thanks!!!
